Connections between "Falcon Crest" and Other Productions

(revised 05/15/2023)

Many props from "Falcon Crest" were reused in other productions, which is a usual process in the entertainment industry because not everything is bought specifically for a production. Below are a few striking examples of pieces of furniture and other items for set dressing (in this case seating furniture) that were prominently reused in other shows or came from other shows and were reused on "Falcon Crest".

Armchair
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Living Room;
seasons 2 and 3):

In seasons 2 and 3, this 48" antique Victorian armchair, upholstered in peach velvet, was part of the furniture in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion living room. It was part of a set with a matching armchair and sofa although the other chair and the sofa were upholstered in a different fabric (see below for details about the sofa). The armchair has a mahogany frame with a floral carved crest and two curved front legs as well as a button tuft back pair. It was visible in detail for the first time in "Confrontations" (# 028 <2.10>; original U.S. airdate: 12/10/1982, CBS) where the screen grab is from.
With WARNER BROS.' acquisition of LORIMAR in 1989, all their assets, including this armchair, became property of WARNER BROS. The armchair is still in the studio's prop department.

After "Falcon Crest" refurnished most parts of the Victorian Mansion in season 4, this armchair became available for the use on "Berrenger's", LORIMAR's short-lived nighttime drama about a luxury department store in New York City. The screen capture is from "Overture" (# 01; original U.S. airdate: 01/05/1985, NBC). By the way, just like in seasons 1 through 5 of "Falcon Crest", LINDA SPHEERIS was in charge of set decoration for the pilot of "Berrenger's".

Armchair
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion;
seasons 6 through 9):

After the earthquake, the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion was partly refurnished. In seasons 6 and 7, there were two elegant wooden Empire style armchairs in brown lacquer and — at the partly ebonized armrests — with decorative brass elements in the living room; the backrest and seat cushion were upholstered in a fabric with broad stripes in slightly different bright cream tones. Screen grab 1 from # 129 shows one of these chairs.
When the Victorian Mansion was rebuilt after the fire in season 8, these two armchairs became the new guest chairs in Angela's study (as depicted on screen capture 2 from # 205), replacing the previous two Louis XVI style armchairs. For that purpose, the Empire style armchairs were re-upholstered in a more elaborate cream colored fabric with gold and blue stripes as well as yellow, pink and red ornaments to match Angela's re-upholstered office chair (one of the former guest chairs in the study).
These armchairs are approximately 36" high.

One of these Empire armchairs made its way to season 12 of LORIMAR's "Knots Landing" where it was used to furnish Marco Conti's office in Rome / Italy in the episode "What if?" (# 281 <12.05>; original U.S. airdate: 10/25/1990, CBS).

Shortly after, both of these chairs were used in seasons 12 through 14 of the same show in the entryway of Claudia Whittaker's house in the cul-de-sac; the second screen grab from "Knots Landing" is from "In the Dog House" (# 293 <12.17>; original U.S. airdate: 02/14/1991, CBS).
These props became assets of WARNER BROS. after buying out LORIMAR in 1989. However, their fate remains a mystery since they are no longer in the possession of their prop department.

Armchair
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Foyer;
# 130 through 133):

After the earthquake, the foyer of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion (here a screen grab from # 132) was temporarily furnished with an elegant wooden Empire style armchair in black lacquer and — at the armrests — with decorative silver lacquered dolphin details; the backrest and seat cushion are upholstered in gray fabric with narrow white stripes. The armchair is approximately 36" high.

LORIMAR later dressed the bedroom in Paige Matheson's condo in seasons 11 through 14 of "Knots Landing" with this chair; the screen capture is an example from "My Love Always" (# 273 <11.26>; original U.S. airdate: 04/26/1990, CBS).
This prop became owned by WARNER BROS. after buying out LORIMAR in 1989. The armchair is still available from their prop department.

Armchairs
(Del Oro Spa & Country Club – Historic Club House – Lobby;
seasons 6 and 7):

The main lobby in the historic club house at the Del Oro was furnished with narrow pastel lilac armchairs with straight armrests in season 6 and early season 7. When the dimensions of the Del Oro lobby set were changed in # 158 for the remainder of season 7 (compare our Behind the Scenes section for more details), there was no longer enough room for these armchairs, and LORIMAR used them elsewhere.

  • "Dallas":

    The production company brought one of them over to the set of "Dallas" to furnish J.R. Ewing's condo at the end of season 10 (original count) / 11 (DVD count). The screen capture is a comparison shot from "Last of the Good Guys" (# 277 <10.26 – original count> / <11.26 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 04/08/1988, CBS).

  • "Knots Landing":

    Almost at the same time, they used most of these armchairs on "Knots Landing" to dress the newly remodeled main lobby of Lotus Point in season 9 with them; the screen grab is an example from the episode "Just Desserts" (# 216 <9.26>; original U.S. airdate: 04/14/1988, CBS).

Armchairs
(Riebmann House – Study;
# 069 and 070):

In the first two episodes of season 4, two matching Victorian armchairs, upholstered in tan leather, were part of the furniture in the study of the Riebmann House in Buenos Aires / Argentina. Each armchair has a wooden frame with a carved crest on the backrest as well as a button tufted back. The screen grab is an example from "Father's Day" (# 070 <4.02>; original U.S. airdate: 08/08/1984, CBS).

After "Falcon Crest", these two armchairs became available for the use on LORIMAR's nighttime drama "Berrenger's" where they were used to furnish patriarch Simon Berrenger's office in the pilot, "Overture" (# 01; original U.S. airdate: 01/05/1985, NBC).

Bamboo Armchairs
(Gioberti House – Veranda; seasons 2 through 4):

Between seasons 2 and 4, the Gioberti House veranda was equipped with several bamboo armchairs — very prominently featured during the baby shower for Melissa and Lance in # 020. One of them gained public awareness from the official cast group photo of season 2 because JANE WYMAN is sitting in it. These LORIMAR owned props were used in other productions before and after "Falcon Crest".

  • "Flamingo Road":

    Prior to "Falcon Crest", LORIMAR used this set of armchairs in season 2 of "Flamingo Road" on Michael Tyrone's (DAVID SELBY) terrace — the filming location was Arden Villa in Pasadena, CA, which was used on "Falcon Crest" as Riebmann's house in Buenos Aires / Argentina, Norton Crane's New York home and Michael and Savanna Sharpe's mansion. The screen grab from "Flamingo Road" is from "The Stranger" (# 20 <2.05>; original U.S. airdate: 12/08/1981, NBC).

  • "Knots Landing":

    In season 4 of LORIMAR's "Knots Landing", one of the armchairs was used to dress Ciji Dunne's apartment; the screen capture is from "Abby's Choice" (# 064 <4.11>; original U.S. airdate: 12/16/1982, CBS).

Dining Room Chairs
(Gioberti House;
season 1):

The brown dining room chairs in the Gioberti House from season 1 (except in # 002 — compare our Behind the Scenes section for further details) had a striking curved backrest and a carved wooden centerpiece in the upper part of the backrest. These props were not owned by LORIMAR, but rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS).
Before and after "Falcon Crest", the chairs owned by TBS were used in various other productions; the following list is in chronological order:

  • "Police Woman":

    These chairs were previously used in the episode "Requiem for a Bored Wife" (# 10 <1.10>; original U.S. airdate: 11/29/1974, NBC) produced by COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION at THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

  •

  • "Making Love":

    Almost at the same time as on "Falcon Crest", these chairs were used in "Making Love" — theatrical release date: 02/12/1982 (USA). This movie was produced by 20TH CENTURY FOX; these props were rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS.
  •

  • "Hart to Hart":

    After "Falcon Crest", the chairs resurfaced in the episode "Harts on the Run" (# 101 <5.12>; original U.S. airdate: 01/03/1984, ABC). That series also filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS at the time.

  •

  • "North and South":

    Also after "Falcon Crest", the chairs were used to dress the Main family's mansion at the Mont Royal plantation in "North and South". The screen capture is from Book I – part 1 (original U.S. airdate: 11/03/1985, ABC). That mini-series was produced by WARNER BROS. and filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

  •

  • "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark":

    Also after "Falcon Crest", the chairs were used in "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" — theatrical release date: 09/30/1988 (USA). This comedy horror movie was filmed partly at THE BURBANK STUDIOS with props rented from their prop house. By the way, DANIEL GREENE (Dwayne Cooley from "Falcon Crest") is the male lead in this movie.

Dining Room Chairs
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion;
seasons 6 and 7):

Between # 145 and 183, there were two contemporary chairs, upholstered in white fabric, in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion dining room (screen capture 1 is an example from # 146). One placed at the head of the table and the other one at the foot of the table, they were standing out between the other chairs, which were antique Chippendale seating furniture.

LORIMAR later used both of these chairs in season 12 of "Knots Landing" in Anne Matheson and Nick Schillace's apartment; the screen grab is an example from "An American Hero" (# 298 <12.22>; original U.S. airdate: 04/04/1991, CBS).

Guest Armchairs
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Study;
seasons 4 through 6):

In season 4, Angela's study in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion was furnished with two identical guest armchairs around a side table near the wall where, later in season 5, the double pocket doors to the sun room would be installed. One of them is visible on the first screen grab from # 081. After the pocket doors to the sun room were installed, only one of the chairs remained in the study (compare the second screen capture from # 121) through season 6.
Each of these matching two antique Louis XVI armchairs has open armrests, fluted legs and a carved round back with a floral crest. The chairs are made from maple, which was whitewashed. The measurements of each chair are 36" (height) x 24" (width) x 19" (depth).
These LORIMAR owned props went to WARNER BROS. as their successor-in-interest after the merger in 1989. Both of these armchairs are still in use at the WARNER BROS. prop department. During LORIMAR's tenure, the armchairs' classic fabric was cream colored with dark blue stripes. A few years ago, WARNER BROS. re-upholstered the chairs in a modern fabric with cream, gold and purple tones.

After "Falcon Crest", both of these armchairs (still in their earlier fabric) were used in LORIMAR's "Knots Landing" in the guest bedroom at the MacKenzie house. The screen capture is from the episode "Cabin Fever" (# 229 <10.10>; original U.S. airdate: 01/12/1989, CBS); only one of these chairs was visible in that room while Paige Matheson stayed there.

In season 13, the second chair was visible also while Claudia Whittaker stayed in that guest bedroom; the screen grab is from "Home Again, Home Again" (# 308 <13.05>; original U.S. airdate: 10/31/1991, CBS).

Office Chair
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Study;
seasons 2 through 7):

For details about Angela's iconic French Louis XVI style office chair in the study of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion between seasons 2 through 7, check the entry in # 019 <2.01> in our Behind the Scenes section.

This chair reappeared in the "Dallas" episode "Paradise Lost" (# 327 <12.20 – original count> / <13.20 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 03/09/1990, CBS) in the interior set of a fur store.
This LORIMAR owned prop became property of WARNER BROS. when the companies merged and is still owned by WARNER BROS. to this day. As many other WARNER BROS. props, the chair can be rented by other production companies.

Office Chair
(The New San Francisco Globe – Richard Channing's Executive Office;
season 3):

The elegant swivel armchair made of wood and black leather in Richard's office in The New San Francisco Globe in season 3 was a prop owned by THE BURBANK STUDIOS, a joint venture between WARNER BROS. and COLUMBIA PICTURES in those days. While "Falcon Crest" was shot there, the prop masters did not only dress the set with props owned by LORIMAR, but also ones that came from THE BURBANK STUDIOS prop warehouse.
When "Falcon Crest" moved from THE BURBANK STUDIOS to the CBS STUDIO CENTER in Studio City, CA during the hiatus between seasons 3 and 4 in order to shoot the remainder of the series there, the armchair had to be returned to the prop house at THE BURBANK STUDIOS. For season 4, Richard's office was redressed with a different antique armchair owned by LORIMAR.
Before and after "Falcon Crest", the armchair owned by TBS was used in various other productions shot on the lot of THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS); the following list is in chronological order:

  • "Police Woman":

    Prior to "Falcon Crest", the armchair was used in the "Police Woman" crime drama in the episodes "The Purge" (# 33 <2.11>; original U.S. airdate: 11/25/1975, NBC);

    and "Generation of Evil" (# 42 <2.20>; original U.S. airdate: 02/10/1976, NBC).
    "Police Woman" was a COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production.

  • "Police Story":

    The armchair was also used prior to "Falcon Crest" in "Eamon Kinsella Royce", an episode of "Police Story" (# 64 <3.20>; original U.S. airdate: 02/20/1976, NBC).
    "Police Story" was a COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production.

  • "The Waltons":

    Also, the armchair was previously used in EARL HAMNER's earlier series, "The Waltons", in "The Cloudburst" (# 109 <5.09>; original U.S. airdate: 11/11/1976, CBS).
    This LORIMAR production had rented the prop from THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

  • "High Anxiety":

    Prior to "Falcon Crest", the armchair was also utilized in the movie "High Anxiety" — theatrical release date: 12/25/1977 (USA).
    This 20th CENTURY FOX production had rented the prop from THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

  • "Hart to Hart":

    The armchair was also previously featured in "Million Dollar Harts" (# 070 <4.03>; original U.S. airdate: 10/19/1982, ABC);

    in the study of King Rashid's mansion in "In the Hart of the Night" (# 075 <4.08>; original U.S. airdate: 11/30/1982, ABC);

    in "Hunted Harts" (# 078 <4.11>; original U.S. airdate: 01/04/1983, ABC);

    and in "Too Close to Hart" (# 088 <4.21>; original U.S. airdate: 05/03/1983, ABC).
    "Hart to Hart" was a COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production.

  • "Mike Hammer":

    The armchair was later reused on "Mike Hammer" where it was featured in "Torch Song" (# 011 <2.01>; original U.S. airdate: 11/29/1984, CBS).
    "Mike Hammer" was also a COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production.

  • "T.J. Hooker":

    The armchair was also reused on "T.J. Hooker", which was also a COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production:
    First, it was featured in a priest's office in "The Confession" (# 058 <4.09>; original U.S. airdate: 12/15/1984, ABC).

    Later, it was used in another office in "The Night Ripper" (# 080 <5.08>; original U.S. airdate: 01/29/1986, CBS).

  • "Crazy Like a Fox":

    The armchair was also used in an office in "Suitable for Framing" (# 12 <1.12>; original U.S. airdate: 03/31/1985, CBS).
    "Crazy Like a Fox" was another COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION production.

  •

  • "Scarecrow and Mrs. King":

    This series featured the armchair in "Billy's Lost Weekend" (# 73 <4.07>; original U.S. airdate: 11/07/1986, CBS).
    "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" was a WARNER BROS. TELEVISION production.

  •

  • "Beauty and the Beast":

    This series (the original 1987 – 1990 show) featured the armchair in the "world below" as the chair at Jacob "Father" Wells' desk throughout its run. The screen capture is an example from "China Moon" (# 13 <1.13>; original U.S. airdate: 01/15/1988, CBS).
    "Beauty and the Beast" was a REPUBLIC PICTURES production filmed at various studios; the producing staff rented this prop from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (WARNER BROS. STUDIOS).

Restaurant Chairs
(Del Oro Spa & Country Club – Spa Restaurant;
seasons 8 and 9):

The chairs at the Del Oro from seasons 8 and 9 (some with, some without armrests) were upholstered with a fabric matching the wall décor in the interior set of the Spa Restaurant.

  • "Dallas":

    They resurfaced later on "Dallas" in the episode entitled "Lock, Stock and Jock" (# 344 <13.10 – original count> / 14.10 ; original U.S. airdate: 01/11/1991, CBS) at the Les Saisons restaurant. For this scene, these LORIMAR owned chairs — at that time already "inherited" by WARNER BROS. — were placed among other props in the foyer of the former Producers Building at LORIMAR STUDIOS (previously MGM STUDIOS; now Jimmy Stewart Building at SONY PICTURES STUDIOS) in Culver City, CA.

  • "Knots Landing":

    Although hard to recognize, two of these chairs were later used on "Knots Landing" to furnish the marina restaurant where Frank Williams and Charlotte Anderson went on their first date in "Always on Your Side" (# 292 <12.16>; original U.S. airdate: 02/07/1991, CBS).

Sofa
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Living Room;
seasons 2 and 3):

In seasons 2 and 3, this 80" antique Victorian sofa was part of the furniture in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion living room. It was part of a set with two matching armchairs although one of the chairs was upholstered in a different fabric (see above for details about that armchair). The sofa has a mahogany frame with a floral carved crest and four curved front legs as well as three loose-cushion seats. It was visible in detail for the first time in "Confrontations" (# 028 <2.10>; original U.S. airdate: 12/10/1982, CBS) where the screen grab is from.
With WARNER BROS.' acquisition of LORIMAR in 1989, all their assets, including this sofa, became property of WARNER BROS. The sofa is still in the studio's prop department, but has been re-upholstered with a slightly different floral fabric in the meantime.

After "Falcon Crest" refurnished most parts of the Victorian Mansion in season 4, this sofa became available for the use in season 6 of LORIMAR's "Knots Landing" in Valene Ewing's apartment in Shula, TN where she lived under the alias Verna Ellers. The screen capture is from "Uncharted Territory" (# 112 <6.12>; original U.S. airdate: 12/27/1984, CBS).

Wicker Chairs
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Veranda and Terrace;
seasons 1 through 9 /
Francesca Gioberti's home, Tuscany / Italy; # 075 /
R.D. Young's home, Mill Valley, CA; season 8):

Throughout the series, the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion was equipped with a set of white wicker furniture on its veranda and terrace. One of the wicker armchairs was also prominently featured in the official cast group photos of seasons 1 and 7 because JANE WYMAN was sitting in it.
As stated in our Behind the Scenes section, a few pieces from that set were used as Francesca's outdoor furniture at her home in Tuscany / Italy in # 075 (compare there) and as R.D. Young's veranda furniture in season 8 (compare # 185).

During season 1 of "Falcon Crest", LORIMAR used a few pieces of the wicker furniture set — two armchairs and a small coffee table — in season 2 of "Flamingo Road" on Michael Tyrone's (DAVID SELBY) porch — the filming location was Arden Villa in Pasadena, CA, which was used on "Falcon Crest" as Riebmann's house in Buenos Aires / Argentina, Norton Crane's New York home and Michael and Savanna Sharpe's mansion. The screen grab from "Flamingo Road" is from "Strange Bedfellows" (# 24 <2.09>; original U.S. airdate: 01/12/1982, NBC).

Wing Chairs
(Tuscany Downs Turf Club;
Staffeln 4 bis 6):

At the Turf Club of the Tuscany Downs race track, there were a good number of dark green velvet wing chairs; screen capture 1 is an example from # 095.

LORIMAR later reused two of these armchairs to furnish the fashion store on "Knots Landing" where Charlotte Anderson bought her new outfit in "Always on Your Side" (# 292 <12.16>; original U.S. airdate: 02/07/1991, CBS).
