Connections between "Falcon Crest" and Other Productions

(revised 08/18/2023)

Many props from "Falcon Crest" were reused in other productions, which is a usual process in the entertainment industry because not everything is bought specifically for a production. Below are a few striking examples of pieces of furniture and other items for set dressing (in this case miscellaneous items) that were prominently reused in other shows or came from other shows and were reused on "Falcon Crest".

Chandeliers
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Living Room, Foyer and Dining Room;
seasons 1 and 2):

The three identical crystal glass chandeliers in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion foyer, dining room and living room in seasons 1 and 2 were not LORIMAR owned props. They were rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS), which was a joint venture of WARNER BROS. and COLUMBIA PICTURES at the time.
These chandeliers were utilized in other productions filmed at the same studio, too.

  • "Police Woman":

    The chandeliers were previously used in two episodes of this crime drama:
    In "Tennis Bum" (# 53 <3.08>; original U.S. airdate: 11/30/1976, NBC);

    and "Blind Terror" (# 77 <4.10>; original U.S. airdate: 01/04/1978, NBC).

  •

  • "Hotel":

    After "Falcon Crest", the chandeliers were used for "Hotel", AARON SPELLING's new series premièring in the 1983-84 season, which — after filming the pilot at WARNER HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS (nowadays THE LOT) and on location in San Francisco — resumed regular production at THE BURBANK STUDIOS (now WARNER BROS. STUDIOS). On "Hotel", they were first utilized in the ballroom of the St. Gregory Hotel, but with the lowest crystal glass elements removed; the screen capture is from "Tomorrows" ("# 014 <1.14>; original U.S. airdate: 01/11/1984, ABC). Depending on the need for each scene in season 2 of "Hotel", the chandeliers were used both in The Carlyle Room Restaurant (in the same way) and in the redressed ballroom set (the lowest crystal glass elements now back in place).

Espresso Maker
(Del Oro Spa & Country Club;
seasons 6 through 8):

A Belle Époque style brass espresso maker was used at the Del Oro — first in the lobby bar in the Historic Club House in season 6, then at The Max nightclub in year 7 and later at the Spa Restaurant in season 8.

It was previously used by LORIMAR as a prop in Richard Avery's restaurant Daniel on "Knots Landing" in the episode "Man in the Middle" (# 061 <4.08>; original U.S. airdate: 11/18/1982, CBS).

Tea Service
(Angela Channing;
season 1):

Angie's tea service between # 001 and 006 was some distinct porcelain in burgundy and red ground colors with gold border. It was replaced by a different LORIMAR owned prop in # 007.
This tablewear was used in other productions as well:

  • "Dallas":

    Before "Falcon Crest", LORIMAR had used the same tea service on "Dallas", for example. It was visible in the episode "Julie's Return" (# 021 <1.16 — original count> / <2.16 — DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 01/26/1979, CBS) in Julie Grey's apartment.

  •

  • "Hart to Hart":

    After being featured on "Falcon Crest", it was used on other shows filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS). In particular, it was rented from LORIMAR for "Hart's Desire", an episode of "Hart to Hart" (# 073 <4.06>; original U.S. airdate: 11/16/1982, ABC). That series was produced by COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION. At the time, COLUMBIA PICTURES shared an interest in THE BURBANK STUDIOS.

Weaving Loom
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Rooftop Studio;
seasons 1 and 2):

The rooftop studio in the main tower of the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion, which was seen between # 001 and 022, served both as Emma's bedroom in the back and Angie's art studio in the front. In said front part, there was a weaving loom with an almost completed fabric with a bird motif. The whole weaving loom with the fabric was not a LORIMAR owned prop, but rented from THE BURBANK STUDIOS (nowadays WARNER BROS. STUDIOS).

This prop — not owned by LORIMAR — was previously used on other shows filmed at THE BURBANK STUDIOS, in particular an episode of "Police Woman": "Mother Love" (# 44 <2.22>; original U.S. airdate: 02/24/1976, NBC). That series was produced by COLUMBIA PICTURES TELEVISION. At the time, COLUMBIA PICTURES shared an interest in THE BURBANK STUDIOS.
