Connections between "Falcon Crest" and Other Productions

(revised 12/23/2023)

Many props from "Falcon Crest" were reused in other productions, which is a usual process in the entertainment industry because not everything is bought specifically for a production. Below are a few striking examples of pieces of furniture and other items for set dressing (in this case decorative objects) that were prominently reused in other shows or came from other shows and were reused on "Falcon Crest".

Coat of Arms
(Stavros Villa, Kallos / Greece; # 143):

The coat of arms hanging on the wall in the den in Peter Stavros' villa on Kallos / Greece in # 143 was a LORIMAR owned prop.

It was used later in the TV lounge at Greg Sumner's ranch during the video presentation of Laura's farewell messages in "Noises Everywhere — Part II" (# 201 <9.11>; original U.S. airdate: 12/10/1987, CBS) of "Knots Landing".

Heron Sculpture
(Cassandra Wilder's Apartment – Bedroom; season 4 /
Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion – Study; # 184, 185):

A bird sculpture (a heron made from brass) was used for various purposes: in Cass Wilder's bedroom in season 4 and on the sideboard behind Melissa's desk in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion study at the beginning of season 8. It was one piece from a bird series of brass sculptures LORIMAR owned.

LORIMAR had previously used this sculpture to dress Danny Krucek's office on "Berrenger's", a short-lived drama about a New York City department store. The screen grab is from "Power Play" (# 07; original U.S. airdate: 02/09/1985, NBC).

Pictures:

  • Abstract with Antelopes
    (Wilder Advertising – Cassandra Wilder's Office; seasons 4 and 5 /
Del Oro Spa & Country Club – Hallway to Suite 333; season 6 /
    Del Oro Spa & Country Club – Frank Agretti's Suite; # 174 /
    Kathryn Anderson's apartment; # 176 /
Del Oro Spa & Country Club – FBI Suite; # 180):

A colorful abstract with antelopes was used for different purposes: it was hanging in Cassandra Wilder's office at Wilder Advertising in seasons 4 and 5; as visible in # 132, it was later hanging across from the door to Kit's suite (number 333) in the hallway of the Del Oro Spa & Country Club; it was also in Frank Agretti's Del Oro suite in # 174; it also resurfaced in Kathryn Anderson's apartment in the Golden Park West building in San Francisco, as visible in # 176; finally, it was also used in the suite the FBI rented at the Del Oro in # 180.

The very same picture, still brass-framed, was later reused on "Knots Landing" in the hallway outside Jeff Cameron's apartment. The screen grab is from "The One to Blame" (# 272 <11.25>; original U.S. airdate: 04/05/1990, CBS).

  •

  • Abstract with Horses
    (KRDC – Richard Channing's Office; seasons 4 and 5 /
Gioberti Enterprises – Chase Goberti's Office; season 6):

One of the pictures on the wall in Richard's KRDC office (the center picture in screen grab 1) in seasons 4 and 5 and later in Chase's office at Gioberti Enterprises in San Francisco in season 6 — here screen captures from "The Decline..." (# 094 <4.26>; original U.S. airdate: 03/06/1985, CBS) and "Hot Spots" (# 138 <6.11>; original U.S. airdate: 12/12/1986, CBS) as examples — was an abstract with horses.

This picture was reused on "Knots Landing" in Dianne Kirkwood's KBLA TV station office. The screen grab is an example from "Let's Get Married" (# 276 <11.29>; original U.S. airdate: 05/17/1990, CBS).

  •

  • Cloud Dancer
(Queen of the Valley Hospital; # 111):

In season 5, a poster with the artwork "Cloud Dancer" by American artist LAMAR BRIGGS (1935 – 2015) was hanging in a QVH corridor. The poster promotes the Art Expo at the New York Coliseum in New York, which took place between March 8 and 12, 1979.

LORIMAR had previously used the same poster on "Knots Landing" in the living room of Kenny and Ginger Ward's home at 16961 Seaview Circle. The screen capture is from "To Have and to Hold" (# 068 <4.15>; original U.S. airdate: 01/21/1983, CBS; screen capture 2).

  •

  • Iris
(Dr. Estelle Kramer's Practice; season 5):

A large painting with iris flowers was hanging in Dr. Kramer's practice in season 5.
It was a prop owned by CBS-MTM STUDIOS (now RADFORD STUDIO CENTER) and rented by LORIMAR for # 122 through 127.

The very same picture (albeit in a different frame) was previously used to dress the living room in Dr. Mark Craig's house on the critically acclaimed medical drama "St. Elsewhere". The series was produced by MTM ENTERPRISES and also filmed at CBS-MTM STUDIOS (nowadays RADFORD STUDIO CENTER). The screen grab is from "Saving Face" (# 060 <3.16>; original U.S. airdate: 01/16/1985, NBC).
  •

  • Landscape Abstracts / Collages
(Tuscany Valley (Memorial) Hospital; seasons 2 and 3 /
other sets; seasons 3 and 4):

During season 3, two pictures appeared on different walls in the Tuscany Valley Hospital in # 041 <3.01>, 059 <3.19> and 063 <3.23>. One of them (marked red) was previously used at the Tuscany Valley Memorial Hospital in season 2 (# 033 <2.15>) and resurfaced later at the Farrell County Adoption Agency in # 074 <4.06>. The other picture (marked yellow) was later used in the accounting office in # 053 <3.13>. Details are listed in the respective episodes in our Behind the Scenes section.

LORIMAR had previously used the same pictures to dress Cliff Barnes' office at Wentworth Tool and Die in season 4 (original count) / 5 (DVD count) of "Dallas". The first screen capture from "Dallas" is a comparison shot of the picture marked red in Chase's room from a "Dallas" scene in "Acceptance" (# 102 <4.25 – original count> / <5.25 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 04/02/1982, CBS).

The second screen grab from "Dallas" is a comparison shot of the picture marked yellow in Chase's room from a "Dallas" scene in "The Prodigal" (# 098 <4.21 – original count> / <5.21 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 03/05/1982, CBS).

The New San Francisco Globe – Hallway; # 057 /
California State Hospital for the Crimially Insane; # 059 /
    KRDC; season 4):

A still life was used in various places: During seasons 1 and 2, in the Falcon Crest Winery Building in the hallway outside Julia's enology lab (best visible in # 004 <1.04> for the first time); it later resurfaced in a hallway of the New Globe (# 057 <3.17>) and in the California Hospital for the Criminally Insane (# 059 <3.19>) as well as in the hallway to Richard's KRDC office during season 4 (first visible in # 082 <4.14>). Details are listed in the respective episodes in our Behind the Scenes section.

This prop was also used by LORIMAR in season 2 of "Knots Landing". It was hanging in Abby Cunningham's living room at 16969 Seaview Circle; the screen grab is an example from "China Dolls" (# 052 <3.21>; original U.S. airdate: 04/29/1982, CBS).

This screen grab is an example from "Living Dangerously" (# 053 <3.22>; original U.S. airdate: 05/06/1982, CBS) when it was hanging in a hotel suite.

Later, it was on the wall in Detective Janet Baines' police office in "Marital Privilege" (# 079 <5.04>; original U.S. airdate: 10/20/1983, CBS).

  •

  • "Still Life, Taj Hotel, Bombay" by DAVID HOCKNEY

An art print of this famous drawing was hanging in the hallway to Dr. Weather's office at the QVH; details are listed in # 142 <6.15> of our Behind the Scenes section.

LORIMAR later used the same art print in even the very same frame in season 13 of "Knots Landing" in Karen MacKenzie's dressing room at the KBLA TV station; the screen capture is from "I, Claudia" (# 307 <13.07>; original U.S. airdate: 10/03/1991, CBS).

  •

  • Sutro Baths
    (The New San Francisco Globe – Anteroom to the Executive Office;
    seasons 2 through 6):

During seasons 2 through 6, a reproduction of a historic lithographic print of the Sutro Baths in San Francisco was hanging in the anteroom to the New Globe executive office; details are listed in # 020 <2.02> of our Behind the Scenes section.

LORIMAR had previously used the same picture in a different frame to decorate Cliff Barnes' office at Wentworth Tool and Die in season 4 (original count) / 5 (DVD count) of "Dallas". The screen grab is an example from "Acceptance" (# 102 <4.25 – original count> / <5.25 – DVD count>; original U.S. airdate: 04/02/1982, CBS).
  •

  • "Two Sisters" by PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR
    (Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Dining Room;
    seasons 2 through 5):

During seasons 2 through 5, this famous painting was hanging in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion dining room; details are listed in # 022 <2.04> of our Behind the Scenes section.

LORIMAR later used the same picture in even the very same frame for two purposes:
They decorated the living room in Amanda Michael's house in season 11 of "Knots Landing" with it; the screen grab is an example from the episode entitled "Twice Victim" (# 258 <11.11>; original U.S. airdate: 12/14/1989, CBS).

Later in this season, they used it in the hotel suite where the rehearsal dinner for Paige Matheson and Tom Ryan's wedding was held in "Let's Get Married" (# 276 <11.29>; original U.S. airdate: 05/17/1990, CBS).

Vase
(Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion Living Room; # 149):

The 14th century Ming vase Chao-Li drops in # 149 (which was placed in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion living room just for that purpose specifically in that episode) was a cheap porcelain vase from LORIMAR's prop department.

LORIMAR used this vase a few months prior in season 8 of "Knots Landing" in Sylvia Lean's apartment; the screen capture is from "Brothers and Mothers" (# 169 <8.09>; original U.S. airdate: 11/06/1986, CBS).

Virgin Mary Statue
(New Orleans Convent; # 056 /
St. Timothy Church of Tuscany Valley – Rectory – Father Bob's Office; # 087):

In season 3, the same Virgin Mary statue was visible in three different places in the convent in New Orleans where Maggie tried to investigate Jacqueline's past (picture 2); compare our Behind the Scenes section for more details (# 056). It was reused in season 4 as a statue in Father Bob's office in the rectory at St. Timothy (# 087; picture 3).
This prop, which is actually a fiberglass item made to look like stone, belonged to LORIMAR. WARNER BROS. got ownership of it when they bought out LORIMAR in 1989; the prop is still in use by its prop department.

This prop was used in season 8 of "ER" in "The Longer You Stay" (# 159 <8.02>; original U.S. airdate: 10/04/2001, NBC) in the interior set of St. Rafe's Hospital.
