An old black and white portrait of Jasper is shown this episode. Inconsistency: The man on the photo looks quite different from the bust of Jasper Angela was molding in the upper floor studio (Emma's bedroom) in season 1. However, the different looks might come from the fact that the bust represents Jasper at an old age whereas the photo shows him in his younger years.
Inside joke: JANE WYMAN provided the photo of Jasper. The man on the photo is a real-life relative of hers.

Early script drafts included Emma in the opening scene: When she enters, Angela introduces her and Francesca to each other. In later script revisions, Emma was removed from the scene.

Mistake: When Gustav grabs at the cordless phone receiver, the close-up and the wide angle shot are from various takes that were combined in the editing process. This becomes apparent because of the completely different positions of his right arm.

Mistake: For the night scene of Emma's visit with Maggie and Chase, an old establishing shot of the Gioberti House is reused; it features Chase's 1981 GMC High Sierra on the driveway although he replaced it with the same yet facelifted model after season 2. For the differences in the models, see the entry in # 054 about a similar error. A wrong clip (shot during season 2 and first used in # 020) was selected in post-production.

The director's cut of this episode contained a scene in the Gioberti House living room with Emma, psychiatrist Dr. Lynn Parish (played by ELIZABETH HUDDLE), Maggie and Chase; Emma tries to cope with her trauma caused by the plane crash in this segment.
This scene was omitted in the final version that went on the air. The complete storyline about Emma dealing with her trauma was almost entirely abandoned; Emma mentions the doctor's name only once in her chat with Chase and Maggie in the Gioberti House kitchen in this episode.

Whereas, according to # 008, the Giobertis were said to stem from a village near Lucca / Italy, this episode implies they are from a little town near Florence. Most likely, they are from a village between the two cities in Tuscany / Italy.

In their conversation about Jasper, Angela speaks of the place in Italy "where he was born", and Francesca quotes from Jasper's codicil about his "native village in Italy". In # 001, however, Chase told Maggie about the Gioberti House: "I was born here like my father and his father [Jasper]." Comparing these lines, there seems to be an inconsistency in Jasper's backstory concerning his birthplace.
Explanation: From the many details in the conversation between Francesca and Angela, it seems more likely that Jasper was actually born in Italy, whereas Chase's statement might not have referred to Jasper actually being born in the Gioberti House, but to being raised there.
Family bibles straightening out problems like this are available here.

Francesca reads the codicil to Jasper's last will and testament, which is dated 1969. Inconsistency: In # 004, Jasper Gioberti's gravestone said he died 1959.

According to original script drafts, the name of Francesca's grandmother, whose name remained unmentioned in the final version of the episode, was Angelina Armanino.

Product placement: Joseph wears a t-shirt depicting "The Transformers", an American animated series (1984 – 1987) based on Hasbro's toy line by the same name.

Uncredited extra PAUL VAN appears in his usual rôle as the mustached Tuscany Valley doctor again — this time as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club. For his second appearance in this episode, see below.
Compare # 227 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of all his appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 001.

Uncredited extra KEVIN G. TRACEY appears as the thick-eyebrowed Tuscany Valley gentleman again — first, as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club. See below for another appearance in this episode.
Compare # 185 for a list of all his appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 001.

Uncredited extra NICK STEVENS appears in this episode again as Reuben Corsair — this time as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club. For his second appearance in this episode, see below.
Compare # 182 for biographical information about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 008.

Uncredited extra ROBERTA STORM appears as Mrs. Winslow again — as a patron at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club in her first appearance in this episode. For her second appearance in this episode, see below.
Compare # 219 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 035.

Not just the aforementioned extras, but all of them are wearing the same clothes in this episode's aforementioned first scene at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club as in the last two Turf Club scenes in # 075. The reason is that these scenes were all filmed on the same day. Background players usually have to bring several outfits for wardrobe change in such cases, in particular if they appear in more than one scene of the same episode. The directors, however, obviously thought that they could get away with it since the scenes were filmed for two different episodes.

Uncredited extra DOUGLAS MAIDA appears as Dave in this episode again — as usual, as a Tuscany Downs Turf Club waiter.
Compare # 224 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 034.

Early script drafts suggested a scene on the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion veranda with Chao-Li serving afternoon tea while Greg tells Angela that authenticity check-ups on the latest codicil to Jasper's last will and testament were positive. This segment was omitted during script revisions.

The shot of Cole near the lake on the Agretti property in this season's main title (right screen capture) is from an unused version of the scene in this episode (compare the left screen grab for the version used this episode).

This scene was originally much shorter and staged in the entryway of the Agretti Residence in early script drafts. Later script revisions decided to use Napa Valley exteriors to more advantage.

Product placement: Cole wears a polo shirt by Polo Ralph Lauren in this scene.

Music score: In the scene with Melissa and Cole at the Agretti lake, composer SHIRLEY WALKER uses the "Melissa & Cole" score for the first time. She — and several other composers — will reuse that music in several future scenes with those two characters in various episodes this season.

New license plate number of Melissa's white Porsche 911 Targa: 2CAN296.

The bed that is used in Melissa and Cole's bedroom in the Agretti Residence from this episode on is the same prop that was used in # 026 (only) in Julia's bedroom in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion as well as (only again) in # 063 (compare there) in Emma's bedroom in the Mansion.
For LORIMAR's further use of this bed, check out the Beyond the Show – Props – Set Dressing – Bedroom Furniture sections.

The establishing clip of the scenery right before the scene with Julia and Lucas in this episode, which will also be reused for the same purpose in the following episode, is already known from # 006 where it portrayed Rimrock Canyon. This establishing clip originated during filming # 006 at Century Lake in Malibu Creek State Park (formerly Fox Ranch) in Malibu Canyon.
Now, this establishing shot introduces the scenery near the little town of Kellogue in Central Valley, NV (fictional topography) where Julia and Lucas are staying.

Julia wears the same belt buckle with grapes Chase usually has on in other episodes. Seems to be a joke of the wardrobe department!

The Kellogue Sheriff Station is the real Police Department of St. Helena, CA.

Series time frame: According to Sergeant Paterson from the Kellogue Sheriff Station, Julia is the third woman in the last six months who claims to be Julia Cumson. It is only logical that the six months refer to Julia's alleged death (# 067). Giving respect to the information stated in # 068 and 069, it must be around the beginning of September or mid-September 1984 now. This is confirmed by Emma's statement that Richard had been ignoring her for months (since the plane crash).

The shoulder patches on Sergeant Paterson's shirt are the same wardrobe items that appeared in # 069 on some of the uniforms at the rescue site after the plane crash (N.B.: not the ones marked Truro County Sheriff on the blue uniforms there in # 069). These shoulder patches seem to be generic ones saying "Sheriff's Dept.".

Real-life allusion: Greg mentions the Vatican Bank.

Deleted scene: The director's cut included a scene at the Tuscany Downs Turf Club in which Richard assigns Maggie for KRDC on-air reporting, investigating the connection between the race track and the recent crime wave in the valley. This scene was deleted, but removed in post-production.

The identification code of Sheriff Robbins' usual patrol car, the 1982 Dodge Diplomat with license plate number 58632, is 4078.
It is the same picture car that was used with the same identification code as a Truro County Sheriff's Department patrol car in # 069.

The love scene with Melissa and Cole in the lake on the Agretti property was staged in the bedroom at the Agretti Residence in early script drafts and in an intermediate version outside near the lake.

The commuter plane Lorraine wants to use to go from Tuscany to San Francisco, a Piper PA-23-250 Aztec, is registered under N62699. This is the aircraft's real registration number.

Inside joke: In the scene at the airport, Richard calls Lorraine Rainie for the first time. It is his childhood nickname for her. This was not part of the script, but one of DAVID SELBY's usual improvisations. "Rainie" is an allusion to the first name of DAVID's elder daughter, RAYNEE BROOKE SELBY.

The scenes at Gustav's house (former Gianinni House) are filmed at several different locations:
Driveway and gate: The short tree-lined driveway near a major road and the gate with the long driveway is the entrance to Inglenook in Rutherford, CA, the same estate usually used as the Falcon Crest Cooperage (see # 071 in particular).
Pool house: The gray-white brick walls of the exteriors of the pool house can be seen in the background of the pool scene and during "Jean-Louis'" house warming party. This is located on the Hancock Park property in Los Angeles known from # 075.

Cameraman's mistake: On the silver bowls on the buffet at de Bercy's (Riebmann's) housewarming, there are reflections of one member of the crew, who steps back from the buffet.

DAVID GUST, the tall, black-haired and mustached uncredited extra, who will be best remembered for his rôle as an assistant district attorney in # 091, 092 and 154, but who also plays different characters in the series, is a guest at de Bercy's housewarming in this episode.
Compare # 187 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 063.

Uncredited extra NICK STEVENS' second appearance in this episode again as Reuben Corsair is as a guest at de Bercy's housewarming. For his first appearance in this episode, see above.
Compare # 182 for biographical information about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 008.

Richard surprisingly hands a glass of beer to Lorraine although she is only 19 years old. Is his easy-going attitude about teenagers consuming alcohol caused by Richard growing up in Europe where consuming alcohol is usually handled not as strictly as in the U.S.?

Uncredited extra ROBERTA STORM's second appearance in this episode as Mrs. Winslow is as a guest at de Bercy's party — this time with big sunglasses and her hair in chignon style. For her earlier appearance in this episode, see above.
Compare # 219 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 035.

Contrary to the usual habits at Tuscany Valley gala parties, beer is the primary beverage served at de Bercy's (Riebmann's) party.

Uncredited extra JACK BERLE appears as a white-haired mustached Tuscany Valley gentleman again — this time at de Bercy's (Riebmann's) party.
It is his last appearance on the show; he passed away shortly after shooting this episode. He was featured on various occasions in previous episodes (compare 057 and 065).
For details about the extra, compare # 057.

Early script drafts included a scene at Jean-Louis' party with Greg and Pamela running into each other. The segment hinted a certain attraction between them. This scene was omitted in script revisions.

After his earlier appearance (see above), uncredited extra PAUL VAN appears a second time in this episode in his usual rôle as the mustached Tuscany Valley doctor again — now as a guest at de Bercy's housewarming.
Compare # 227 for biographical details about this minor rôle and a list of all his appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 001.

Uncredited stand-in GORDON HODGINS appears as an extra again — this time in his usual rôle as a Tuscany Valley gentleman at de Bercy's housewarming.
Compare # 182 for a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about GORDON HODGINS, compare # 001.

MELODY McCORD, who works between seasons 3 and 9 as a stand-in on the show and also occasionally serves as a photo double in some scenes, particularly for JANE WYMAN, has been playing Melody, the head maid in the Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion since # 066. In the current episode, she is away from her place of work — during de Bercy's housewarming, Melody is the party escort of the Tuscany Valley gentleman played by GORDON HODGINS.

Uncredited extra SHARRI ZAK appears as the gray-haired Tuscany Valley socialite with the pony tail again; this episode as a guest at de Bercy's housewarming.
Compare # 202 for biographical details about this rôle and a list of appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 009.

Uncredited extra KEVIN G. TRACEY's second appearance in this episode as the thick-eyebrowed Tuscany Valley gentleman is at de Bercy's (Riebmann's) housewarming. For an earlier appearance in this episode, see above.
Compare # 185 for a list of all his appearances throughout the series.
For details about the extra, compare # 001.

Mistake: When Richard wants to dance with Francesca at de Bercy's (Riebmann's) party, the close-up of Angela and Francesca and the shot of Richard and Francesca going to the dance floor are from various takes that were combined in the editing process. This becomes apparent because a couple can be seen in the background standing near the house in one frame, but — way too fast — almost running into Richard and Francesca on their way to the dance floor in the next frame.
In the usual process of making a movie or a TV show, scenes are shot at least twice — e.g. one shot in one direction and another shot in the opposite direction, which bears the risk of inconsistencies. Compare # 001 (Chase and Maggie at the Gioberti Family Cemetery) for the advantages and disadvantages of this shooting procedure.
