Napa Valley Wildfires

In a NewsNation TV interview with Spring Mountain Vineyard's manager RON ROSENBRAND, it was explained that 95 % of the vines at the historic property, which was featured on "Falcon Crest", were saved from the fire. ROSENBRAND described in the interview that seven buildings on the property burnt to the ground, including his own home [editorial note: the previous Streblow Residence on the Alba Estate]. The structures that perished were located on parts of the property that were acquired over the years after its use as a filming location.

ROSENBRAND also pointed out that it was an incredible inferno with gusty winds and amber weather blowing like a thunderstorm of flames and fire. The flames came within approximately 15 feet of Villa Miravalle (the Victorian Mansion, which was Angela Channing's residence on "Falcon Crest"). The historic masterpiece of architecture built by TIBURCIO PARROTT in 1885 was saved by ROSENBRAND and firefighters from both the local area and out of town, including a crew from Burbank.

ROSENBRAND explained that this year's harvest is lost due to smoke damage.

Particularly the last two pictures show the immediate danger Spring Mountain was in:
[above left:] heavy smoke from the fire right behind the Winery Building;
[above right:] charred palm trees in front of Villa Miravalle.

Napa Valley Wildfires

According to an update from the Wine Spectator magazine on the damages at Spring Mountain Vineyard, it seems that the historic winery of the Chateau Chevalier estate survived the fire due to its stone structure and slate roof. This 1891 building was used in "The Vintage Years" as the original Gioberti House, called the stone cottage in the predecessor.

It was confirmed that among the buildings that perished in the fire is the residence at Spring Mountain's La Perla estate. It was the former owners' (Draper family) home built in the 1970's. Although it remained out of the camera angle, the view over the valley in "The Vintage Years" in parts of a scene with Angie and Chase was filmed from a spot east of said house. You can learn more about the montage of this segment into the scene in the predecessor in our Behind the Scenes section.

There is still no information available on the fate of the barn at Spring Mountain's Miravalle estate (the Falcon Crest Guest House).

Napa Valley Wildfires

Spring Mountain Vineyard is safe — at least the Miravalle estate with Villa Miravalle and the Winery Building, which is known to the "Falcon Crest" community as the Victorian Mansion and the Winery Building of Falcon Crest.

We do not have detailed information yet which other buildings besides the vineyard manager's home and Spring Mountain's La Perla Winery (the winery used in "The Vintage Years") were destroyed. Rumor has it parts of Spring Mountain's Chateau Chevalier (which was primarily used as the Gioberti House in the predecessor, "The Vintage Years") and the barn at Miravalle (known as the Falcon Crest Guest House to the audience) might have been victims of the fire. SUSAN ROBBINS, our dear friend and former owner of Spring Mountain during the "Falcon Crest" era, confirmed that Villa Miravalle and Winery are safe and that she will check on the barn when the area is accessible again and let us know.

In the meantime, detailed information is sparse, but we would like to share the official letter from Spring Mountain's vice president of sales and marketing, DERMOT WHELAN, which was sent out to social media.

Current News:

Napa Valley Wildfires

It is with great sorrow that we have to inform about the extensive fire damage to one of the major "Falcon Crest" filming locations, Spring Mountain Vineyards in St. Helena: Three buildings on the property were leveled. Besides two structures which had not been used for filming, including the vineyard manager's home, the 1873 La Perla Winery (a.k.a. Draper Winery during the "Falcon Crest" era) burnt to the ground. The screen capture on the left is a documentation of its use in the original pilot, "The Vintage Years", where the historic stone building portrayed the winery at the Gioberti Vineyard; both exteriors and interiors were shot there, particularly for Dorcas' enology lab. Also, various vineyards on the property were severely damaged by the fire.
The buildings on Spring Mountain's Miravalle estate — including the Victorian Mansion, the Winery Building and the barn (the guest house on "Falcon Crest") — have been spared by the flames so far. They are still in immediate danger though.

Current News:

Napa Valley Wildfires

It is with great concern that we have to inform you about the devastating wildfires in the Napa Valley. The Glass and Boyson Fires are a horrifying threat to one of the most important filming locations — if not the most important location — of "Falcon Crest", Spring Mountain's Miravalle, the property that portrayed the iconic Falcon Crest Victorian Mansion, Winery Building, Guest House and vineyards.
We are monitoring the events carefully, but have to share the news that other "Falcon Crest" filming sites nearby, including Newton Vineyard above Spring Mountain and Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga, have been partly destroyed or at least seriously affected by the fires. We do hope the historic Miravalle Estate at Spring Mountain can be saved. We will update this section as soon as new information becomes available.

For further information, we recommend the San Francisco Chronicle, which has a list of wineries affected by the current Glass Fire, which is frequently updated.
The official Fire Situational Awareness website of Napa County provides a map with the fire activity, which is updated on a regular basis.
